Tour of Remodel Homes 2009

We proudly present our speakeasy basement remodel. The couple in this Northeast Portland neighborhood were looking for a place to entertain their friends and family. This basement has loads of enmities with a wine cellar, beer tab, custom cooper bar, and even turns into a dance floor once the LED lights are turned up. This fun and festive basement also allows their guest all the comforts of their own home with spacious bedroom and their own private bath.

1920's Tutor house in Northeast Portland

The tutor had lots of deferred maintenance. After shoring up the structure of the house it was off to removing many many layers of wallpaper in the rooms and designing some wonderful extras. Those extras included a gourmet kitchen, theater room, wine cellar and a new garage with an upstairs that was converted to an artist studio. Completing this whole house remodel was extremely gratifying to bring this 1920's tutor back to its former glory.

Dual Purpose's projects are not limited to the NE Portland area. We have done work in the Bend, Gresham, Sherwood, Beaverton, and other Portland neighborhoods. Our goal is to bring houses back to their state of glory but also providing function in today's time.

Expanding a generous house in the bend area to include a formal dining room with deck gave this couple a place to entertain family and friends. The trick to this remodel was incorporating this expansion so that it looked like it was designed as part of the original structure. The project also yielded a basement remodel into a theater room. This room is complete with soft theater lighting, stadium seating, and velvet curtain.

Our Gresham remodel had many areas to change but their biggest expansion was converting their old family room into a dream kitchen of a life time. This gourmet chef had used a kitchen that was small but cozy for many years and wanted to be able to bring the family into the kitchen while cooking. On the list of things to do they wanted to keep a bath that was in the old family room but make it more functional to their needs. Creating a step in shower made bathing much easier for the aging couple. Once the kitchen was moved we were able to expand the adjoining bathroom to include a whirlpool tub.

The projects that we have been fortunate to help clients did not only include houses but also many condos in the Portland area. Remodeling several Binfords condos gave us good practice in maximizing space but also creating an environment where people can live comforably.
